As Promised...

Trevor is really changing these days! He doesn't sleep with the swaddle blanket anymore. Now he flops all over the bed while he is sleeping! He really enjoys the sleep sacks we got him. They keep him warm but he can still flip over to his tummy if he wants to. His eyes have changed color from blue to hazel like mine. He is getting up on all fours, scooting, crawling and rolling everywhere and getting into everything! He is getting really good at grabbing anything he wants and studies everything with total concentration. He has outgrown his baby bathtub, finally found his feet and outgrown the bassinet part of his bed. He has also become quite attached to me the past week or so. He doesn't like for me to get out of his sight, and is starting to cry when other people hold him. He won't let Josh put him to bed anymore either. It has to be Mom. It is so exciting to watch him learn and grow. His favorite new toy is paper. He can destroy a newspaper in seconds! LOL That means Christmas should be fun!!!

And now, as promised....NEW PICTURES!!

Has it Really Been a Whole Year??

One year ago today we found out that we were pregnant!! I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. I can vividly remember how excited I was to see that second line pop up! We had waited for this baby for a very long time. I ran to walmart and bought a gift box and a bib that says "I love my Daddy" and wrapped the bib and the pregnancy test and left it where I was sure Josh would see it. When he came home he opened his very special gift and I could hardly contain my excitement! He was definately in shock! LOL I think it took a day or two for it to sink in that we were finally really pregnant. Everyone told me that my pregnancy would seem to take forever, but in all honesty it seemed to fly by. I can't believe that it has been an entire year. That was definately the best Christmas present I have ever gotten!!

I think the shock has definately worn off now....

And He's Off!!

We predicted he'd be crawling by Christmas.....

Now we're officially having to baby-proof. He can get anywhere he wants to go (at an amazing speed), and can grab anything he wants to play with!!

Show & Tell

I've wanted to wear Trevor more often for awhile now, but the front carrier I had from wally world just wasn't all that comfortable for him or for me. The alternatives were pricey (read: hella expensive) and I didn't want to blow that kind of money on something that I didn't know for sure would be better than what I already had. So, I did my research and made a sling, specifically a ring-sling, all by myself for hardly nothing. It is SO comfortable and Trevor seems to like it. There are a ton of different ways I can carry him in it, including on my hip when he gets a bit bigger. I think I will be wearing him more often now! Since he is very much attached to mommy during the day, this should be a great help. I might actually start cleaning my house again!! LOL

Pretty cool huh?

Who needs toys?

We were cleaning out Trevor's closet the other night and emptied up this box. He loved playing with it!! He pushed it around for a good 15 minutes, he thought it was pretty cool!

And no, he didn't hurt himself at the end, he actually thought it was funny and kept on playing, but I ran out of battery. LOL

Trevor Got His Picture Made With Santa!!

We had Trevor's picture made with Santa at the mall Friday! The Santa was AWESOME!! Trevor could have cared less though, he just wanted to chew on his hands! LOL The picture turned out really good, although I'm not sure it was worth the price tag. :P

I love this poem.

Changing Grace

By Amanda N. Maurer

I've lost my grace, little one.
Since your arrival, my shoulders have slumped,
My hair is uncombed, and I cannot be engaged
In polite conversation because my tired mind
Lacks the energy and my gaze perpetually wonders
Away from the speaker to you.

But what is grace?
I observe another new mother, and she is beautiful.
Social graces were important to me once,
But not so much anymore.

My shoulders are curved in a warm and nurturing embrace
As you nurse contentedly at my breast.
My eyes radiate a newfound, unconditional love
That leaves my entire being aglow.
The pace of life has slowed until time stands still
And I remember the simple pleasures of a perfect day,
Sun shining on my face, smiling and laughing with someone I love.

Thank you for reminding me what is truly beautiful in life.
I am ready now to give all that I am to you, and
All too soon
We will both walk tall together.

Tis the Season

Its that time of year again. Cold and flu season. YUCK. We're all sick. Congestion, cough, runny nose, iffy stomachs...the whole nine yards. Bleh. Josh has had the worst of it, and so far Trevor only seems to be congested with a random sneeze or cough thrown in. He seems to feel pretty well aside from that, but is having trouble sleeping. We got a vicks vaporizer thing and now the whole house smells like menthol, but we're all breathing a bit easier. Hopefully it won't get any worse for Trevor than a little congestion. I'm counting on my antibodies to help him out here. *sigh* I would love to curl up in bed for the day. Wonder if I could talk Trevor into it? LOL

Anywho, here's a few pictures to tie you over until we're all well again.

Delaying Solids

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I feel the need to write this post. I know that all of you were told to start your baby's on solid foods at four months old (or even younger) but research has been done that shows that especially in breastfed babies, it is actually beneficial to delay starting solid foods until they are at least 6 months old. You don't even have to introduce them then. Some people wait until 9 months or later, and some babies aren't even interested in solid foods until closer until one year old. Some doctors will recommend not introducing solids until one year if your family has a history of food allergies.

There are a lot of myths about starting solid foods. One being that big babies need solid foods sooner because they just aren't getting "satisfied" from breastmilk or formula. The truth is that breastmilk and formula (especially breastmilk) contain more calories and fat than ANY other food you could give to your baby. Therefore they would end up less satisfied from solids than from exclusively nursing and could even lose weight if they end up filling up on solids and don't take in enough breastmilk or formula. Another is that solid food will help baby sleep through the night. This holds no relevance to me anyway, because I don't really care if he sleeps all night or not, but there is also no medical evidence that this is true. Many moms find more sleep disturbances after starting solids, especially if done too soon, because of tummy upsets and constipation. Did you know that solid foods in the first year are really only for play and learning and are not supposed to account for calorie intake or nutritional value?

It is our plan to delay starting Trevor on solid foods until he is at least 6 months old. We have done our research and Josh and I feel this is the right thing to do for him. That is why we will not be allowing anyone to give him a taste of their food this Thanksgiving. Yes, one little taste could hurt and its not up for discussion. Besides that, Josh and I want to be the ones to give him his first taste of solid foods, when we are all ready.

Here is a link that explains in detail why we will be delaying solids. I encourage you to read through it, it has some really interesting information! :)

Growing up so fast!!

Our little man is three months old today! I can't believe how fast the time has flown! He's getting bigger every day. His hair is starting to fill out, I actually have to brush it now or it sticks up. lol He's reaching and grabbing toys now, thinks mommy and daddy's kisses are incredibly funny and likes looking at books while I read to him. He's really filling out his 3-6 months clothes, I don't know how much longer they are going to fit! If you hold his hands while he's standing up he'll "walk". Its the cutest thing, one little foot in front of the other. He acts so proud of himself while he's doing it! He no longer stays in one place for long anymore, he rolls and scoots all over the floor. He amazes me each and every day. We are so in love with him!

I'll put up new pictures tomorrow, right now I'm going to hit the sack!! :)

Wish I could see the angels faces...

Today we said goodbye to a man who will forever be missed by so many. My Papa. He was a man of character, with something witty to say in any circumstance. He created his own legacy, the Daddy of two girls, Papa to three boys and five girls and just this year, great-grandpa of one baby boy. He was married to my Mommom for 45 precious years. The preacher at the service today said "I have never seen a closer couple" and he is absolutely right. Their marriage was the stuff little girls dreams are made of. Sweethearts from a young age, they stood beside each other through it all, good or bad. I spent a lot of time at their house, and will always remember the love that they shared. A goodnight kiss every night before bed, playful bickering throughout the day, a shared bowl of popcorn over the evening news, a cup of coffee in the morning. Tears and laughter, highs and lows they were always a united front. Mommom stood beside him the entire time he was ill, worrying about him, while he was worrying about her. If my marriage is half as strong as theirs, I will be blessed.

Some things will always remind me of my Papa. He loved Nascar and westerns, catfish, ribs, fishing, duck hunting, working with his hands, cats, his dogs, his kids, his grandkids, his wife. He was always there to lend a hand with math homework or science projects, always ready to tell a story, teach a goofy nursery rhyme or share words of wisdom that I will carry with me for a lifetime. He was a rock to lean on, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen. He is my hero.

He is the bravest, strongest man I've ever known. The things that he went through this past year would make anyone want to just give up, but he never did. He kept fighting and through it all, he always had a smile and something funny to say. He always kept us laughing, no matter how bad he felt.

He was the rock of our family. Our center. He built a lot of love, and he could never know how much he will be missed.

I can't wait to tell Trevor all about him. I will teach him Papa's nursery rhymes that drove Mommom nuts. I will pass on all of the funny stories, the wisdom and the love that my Papa gave me. He may not remember him, but he will know him. He will know that he has a very special guardian angel looking after him. He will know how much he was loved by him.

Words of a familiar song filled the cemetery this morning that have never rang more true or pulled at my heart harder than they did today.

I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son

Fall has Fallen!

While others are (endlessly) raking the fallen leaves out of their yards, I've always liked the look of them. Free mulch! Sure they're a fire hazard, but they sure are pretty! I let Trevor check out the leaves and got some nice pictures. I really thought he would freak out when I laid him in the leaves, but he seemed to enjoy it! He loved looking up at the sun coming through the tree limbs and even (inadvertently) crunched a couple in his hand!

Trevor has been rolling from his front to his back for almost a month now, but just today for the first time rolled from his back to his front!!! He is ahead of the curve--the "norm" for rolling from back to front is 4-6 months! Go Trev! I even caught it on tape!! He's done it like 6 more times tonight so he's really getting the hang of it! We're so proud!

....Drum roll please....
