Kudos to Tush!
My baby boy is getting too big for his receiving blankets. Every time I swaddle him up, no matter how tightly, he manages to break his arms out and wakes up or moves the blanket up too close to his face for my comfort. I decided that we were done with swaddling and with that all hopes of sleep went out the window. This child will NOT sleep unswaddled. He might be asleep, but his arms are not. They wave a million miles an hour until finally he smacks himself in the eye and wakes himself up...it would be funny if it didn't cause us both to be sleep deprived.
Yesterday I happened to remember this goofy blanket his Mamaw bought for him when he was born. It has a nifty sack at the bottom that his legs go in, and the the swaddle around his arms velcros shut. I tried it out and this puppy is NOT moving! There is absolutely no way its coming loose, its awesome! Honestly, I meant to take it back a long time ago because I just didn't think we would use it, but I forgot. So this is a huge thanks to Tush for our "Swaddle Me" blanket. It saved my sanity--he slept six (yep you read that right SIX) straight hours last night wrapped up in this thing! Miracle worker I tell you! I went and bought a back-up one today!
Totally off topic, but to the woman at Mc'Donalds this morning-please don't apply for a PUBLIC SERVICE job if you do not enjoy serving the public. It is not my fault that you messed up my order, and I was very polite in explaining to you that what you were handing me was not mine. I do not appreciate the way I was treated, or your snarky remarks to your co-workers. Just give me my coffee, thank me for my business, maybe even throw in a smile and send me on my way. I'm sure you would have spit in it if I hadn't been able to watch you fix it. Its a shame your name tag was so smudged, or I would report you to your manager. Next time you are having a bad day, keep it to yourself.
I feel better now. lol

It's Bedtime Baby!!
Yep. My baby has a bedtime. I've always believed that tiny babies don't need schedules, and I still don't. By schedule I mean the baby eats at 10, 2, 6, and 10 and no where in between etc. I think those types of schedules are unnecessary. If I'm hungry, I pity the fool who tells me I can't eat because its not lunchtime yet. He eats when he wants, and plays when he wants and for the most part, during the day, he sleeps when he wants.
Bedtime is a different story. We start getting ready for bed somewhere between seven and eight, and he's usually asleep by eight thirty at the latest. First he plays in just a diaper for a bit, then he gets gas medicine, a nice warm bath, new diaper and clean sleeper, swaddled, then nursed and rocked to sleep. Sometimes the routine varies, but thats pretty much how it goes around here every night. We started this routine when he was about six weeks old.
Did I decide that he should be in bed by 8ish every night? No. Plain and simple this was not really my idea. I was fine with putting the baby to bed when we went to bed, but after about two weeks of him being so fussy and inconsolable that you couldn't stand to live with him from around 9pm until midnight when he would finally, out of exhaustion, fall asleep I had a moment of clarity. Maybe, just maybe, he was overtired which in turn was causing him not to be able to fall asleep. I wondered if I could head him off at the pass and get him to bed BEFORE he got so cranky. Lo and behold it worked. I've never looked back.
Nine times out of ten he sleeps from eight-ish until midnight, eats and then sleeps until four, eats again and then sleeps until around eight in the morning. For those of you who say that I should put him to bed later so he won't get up so early...no thanks. I am a night owl, and absolutely not a morning person. I would LOVE to sleep late in the mornings, but I would never get anything done because I guarantee you that I'm not crawling out of bed before the baby does to load the dishwasher. These things are much easier to do at night, before I sink into that warm comfy bed that I never ever ever want to crawl back out of.
So there. That is the long drawn out reason that Trevor has a bedtime (loosely) for those of you who are making fun of me for it. He's a happier baby and I'm a happier mama. :)

For your viewing pleasure....
New pictures! :)
Sorry I haven't posted much lately, we've had a lot going on. Trevor is smiling more by the day and trying really hard to laugh. He's making tons of new noises and his new favorite thing is to practice trying to get his entire fist in his little mouth! LOL He's also trying to figure out how to get his thumb to stay straight so he can suck on it for more than a few seconds at a time. I think once he figures it out, we'll be done with the pacifiers. I'll admit that doesn't bother me one bit. You found me out...I'm a paci hater. :P

2 Month Check Up
The dreaded doctors appointment has finally come and gone! He measured up just perfectly at 13 lbs 8oz and 24 inches long--in the 80th percentile for both. They said he was healthy and absolutely perfect (but we knew that already didn't we?). The nurses couldn't get enough of him. lol He had to have three shots. Two nurses gave him a shot in each leg at the same time and then gave him one more. He screamed of course, and has been really tired and fussy since but who can blame him? I'm just glad its over. I hate watching him get those stinking shots.

2 Months Old! (1 Day Late)
I can't believe that our little bugger is already 2 months old! It still seems like just yesterday that he changed our lives forever. I can't believe how much he's growing and changing! His 2 month well-baby checkup is Thursday, I dread the shots but can't wait to see how much he has grown!

Look how much he's changed!!

The Story of the Quilt
This is going to be a long one, so go fix yourself a cup of coffee. I'll wait. As a matter of fact, fix me one too. Lord knows I need it today. LOLI never met my Dad's mom. I've always known her as Granny Maxie, and I have pictures of her but sadly she died before I was born after a long hard struggle with cancer. Everything I have ever heard about her have been wonderful things, and I believe every one of them. There is a story that she told my Mom and Dad that I was going to be a red-headed little girl (in the day before gender ultrasounds...sheesh I'm old) and that she "had carried me through the golden field". She even made a pink quilt for me that I drug through everything until it was a tattered mess. It's now living a nice retired life in my cedar chest and is one of my most treasured possessions. I've been told my entire life that she is my guardian angel.
Almost a month exactly before Trevor was born, Dad called to tell me that I should be expecting a package from my Great Aunt Maureen (Maxie's sister) and that when it got here I should call her to find out its story. I waited anxiously for two days and was so curious when the mail man finally delivered it I couldn't wait to get it open.
Inside the box was a beautiful quilt. I unfolded it and it was perfect, not a single flaw. I didn't waste anytime calling Aunt Maureen.
Now I have to stop right here and tell you something to make this story more understandable. My Aunt Maureen has a direct open line to the Man Upstairs. Literally. She doesn't pray, she calls Him up and they have a chat. She lives in Indiana, but if something is wrong with one of us she knows. She says that when we're in trouble our picture falls off her wall. She's always right. Now back to your story.
She was so excited that it had arrived, she couldn't wait to tell me where it came from. Aunt Maureen explained to me that while Granny Maxie was so sick, her husband (My Dad's Father) had left her. Granny Maxie was upset that her family was paying for her health insurance so she gave Aunt Maureen a whole bunch of quilts that she had made and told her to take them home with her and sell them to help cover the costs.
Aunt Maureen did as she was told and quickly sold all of the quilts. That was around 25 years ago. Fast forward a quarter of a century. Aunt Maureen gets a phone call from a woman that says that a woman came to her in her dreams (apparently several times because she described her as "determined") and told her she had to contact her. She said that she had bought a quilt from her a long time ago. She described my Granny Maxie perfectly to Aunt Maureen and said that she was instructed to return the quilt that she had bought. She said the lady in her dreams told her to get it mailed to "her Granddaughter that was carrying her Great Grandson". She only has two Granddaughters and the other one is still in elementary school.
So the quilt she made so many years ago ended up in my hands just in time for my sweet baby boy. Aunt Maureen described it as God's way of showing us that nothing goes unnoticed. She said that Granny Maxie is still my Guardian Angel, and whenever I feel alone she is there beside me. Watching over me.
I've known it all along, but now I have a little bit of proof.

Trevors New Best Friends
Trevor has recently discovered the Zanzibar mobile above his crib (in which he has never slept) and he absolutely LOVES it! He will lay for a very long time talking and smiling to the flying animals! Its so cute to watch him lock on to one animal and watch it for awhile and then switch to the next. It is his new favorite activity, aside from talking to the ceiling fan.
By the way, I just realized that I had adding comments disabled somehow. I fixed it so now all you have to do is click the word "comments" at the end of every post to leave your thoughts! (*wink* *wink*) Don't forget to sign your name! :P

What a Week!
Sorry for my lack of posting, but we've been to hell and back this week (well, technically Baton Rouge, but they're pretty close to the same thing). Last weekend our beloved Pooch, our other baby, suddenly started going paralyzed in his back legs. We had no idea what was going on and neither did our vet but we knew it was bad and we didn't know how it was going to turn out. Our vet suspected that he possibly had a herniated disk and if that was the case our only two options were surgery or euthanasia (nasty, nasty word). Problem was, the only (and best) place to get this particular surgery is Baton Rouge, Louisiana a mere 8 hour drive from home. We always said we would go to the end of the earth for this dog so we packed up and away we went. By the time we made it there his back half was completely paralyzed and we feared the worst. They ran a bunch of tests and fortunately it wasn't a herniated disk, but bleeding on the spine which they say was caused by some sort of trauma (we still haven't figured out how). The good news is, it will eventually
clear up on its own.
They observed him and rehabbed him for a few days to make sure it was getting better and we were finally able to bring him home! He had a wonderful student named Andrea assigned to his care, and I believe she is the reason he is doing so well. She was wonderful with him and he really liked her! Now that he's home, one week later, he's doing much better. We support him with a sling when he walks but he is starting to be able to walk on his own for short times. We are so thankful that we were able to get him diagnosed--we would have never thought it would get better with therapy. I don't know what we would do without that dog.
All the while, my Papa has been in the hospital having surgery to remove a cancerous mass in his colon, and the only place we wanted to be was home. So, needless to say, we've had a lot going on. It seems like things are finally on the up-and-up so maybe everything will slow back to normal soon.

Its all going somewhere!
I can't believe it, but my month and half old little boy is now moving into 3-6 month clothing! (Nervermind the fact that he pretty much skipped newborn clothing altogether.) At this rate the huge stash of baby clothes I collected during my pregnancy is going to disappear soon! He's just so stinking long! He's recently found his hands, well the left one anyway but I fear that he'll never find his feet, they will be too far away!
In other news, I had my 6 week postpartum checkup Thursday and I weigh ten pounds less than I did before I got pregnant! Just another reason to love breastfeeding-I haven't had a metabolism like this since middle school!!A side note- if you have a minute, please say a little prayer for my Papa, he's having some difficulties and is back in the hospital this weekend. Thanks!
